Hacker attacks community website

A hacker recently attacked the website saffronwalden.net, causing it to be unavailable for a short period. Although no damage was done (other than taking down the site for a short while to verify the site wasn't compromised), and the mechanism of attack has been examined, we are assessing the way the site works (technically and practically), and looking for ways to improve the look and feel and ease of use of the site over the coming months.

As a result, apart from a full disaster recovery plan, (even) more strict backup plans, and further enhanced security, we hope to bring in a number of new features which will be of benefit to the local community.

We also encourage people to write about their clubs, hobbies, businesses and charities to help raise awareness of the good we hope the site will achieve.

Once again, let me apologise for the recent outage, and trust that the website provide you the local information you need.

All the best from everyone, including the many volunteers, at SaffronWalden.net

In order to get a good snapshot of what is happening in the local press covering Saffron Walden and the surrounding area, we intend to use a technology called RSS.
