Internet and Telephone in Saffron Walden

Internet providers are many

They all offer so called great deals, and yet if you add up the cost of providing the service, often the deals don't seem so good. One company for me stands out. As BT reseller, they use the same basic infrastructure as BT, Talk Talk, AOL and many others, yet offer a quality service at an overall lowere price. And first hand experience of them, and their support, indicates their company values revolve around their customers and their reputation, and not around creating inconvenience like others I could mention to retain customers.

Why not give them a try.

Almost all companies these days want you to guarantee business for a longer and longer period, with many insisting on you staying with them for 18 months!! I'm not sure about you, but I never quite know what is going to happen in 18 days, let alone 18 months. So always be careful of the following things:

1. Being tied to the internet providers own email system. if you change internet providers, you are likely to lose your email address, and this inconvenience scares people into staying with unworthy providers.

2. Being tied in for 18 months or more, with no say over the cost of the service (or associated services) which could be increased without you ability to do anything about it.

3.  Dealing with a poor technical department who have no ability to listen, and instead follow inappropriate scripts to have you going round in circles changing things that simply don't need changing, leaving you with a loss of time, and no resolution !

Saffron Walden begins the run to Christmas

Those visiting Saffron Walden this weekend could have been mistake that it is December already. In the run up to Christmas, many shops are stocking presents for those not planning on writing to Santa.

With the 'Credit Crunch' everywhere in the media, we could also be mistaken that the town would be empty, but despite consumer spends apparently decreasing, the amount of visitors seems not to have be dampenedlike the weather.

Long may it continue, with an early Ho Ho Ho!

Get your business involved in helping WWF

Get your business involved

Here are a few pointers on how businesses can improve their environmental performance:

  • Understand where environmental impacts across the business are at their greatest. What natural resources are being used, where do they come from, and where is the main carbon footprint? The biggest impacts are often within the supply chain and at the consumer use of products.
  • Prioritise green efforts in alignment with where there is greatest impact and decide where the company’s responsibilities start and end. How can goods and services be better produced, how can those in the supply chain be engaged, what alternative sourcing arrangements can be made, and how can customers be engaged to use products more responsibly (for example, using less hot water with home cleaning products)?
  • Carbon management is under much scrutiny, so prioritise energy savings above all else. WWF’s suggested order of priorities is: 1) avoid, 2) reduce, 3) offset the irreducible carbon emissions (as a last resort) to a Gold Standard offset project.
  • In a more visionary sense, what are the opportunities to shift towards a greener business model? Moving from product sales to the provision of services can be a key business differentiator, as well as a win for the environment. For example, services around car clubs and sharing schemes are growing as an alternative to the more traditional and impactful practice of car ownership.
  • There are increasing opportunities for companies to look beyond their own environmental performance and to start playing a more proactive role in shaping the business world around them. Businesses on the front foot that are not just reacting to emerging trends but seeking to steer the future interests of their staff, customers and investors and to shape upcoming regulation will stay ahead of the game and be in a better position to build businesses that last.
